/ Behind The Line

We started THE LINE back in 2013. We were just six animators and artists renting a studio space in east London, freelancing, and making short films. We did this because we wanted to… nah, sod that, needed to make the kind of animation we weren’t seeing anywhere else. We learnt heaps, had so much fun, and laid the groundwork for what THE LINE is today: a fully functioning studio with a global reputation for making cool AF work for some of the biggest and coolest brands on the planet.

It was important that, as we grew, we didn’t lose sight of our own brand identity and what we believed set us apart, namely, developing our own projects. It gave THE LINE notoriety in a short space of time and helped us grow a loyal audience. We continued the tradition of backing ourselves and our ever-expanding team, showcasing new voices and rad projects rarely seen in our industry. Listen, if you aren’t prepared to back yourself, how the hell are you going to expect others to?

A great idea

We’ve realised that the projects that reach the furthest start with a top-notch idea. The kind you can riff on endlessly, sparking even more great ideas. They’re easy to talk about, they resonate, and they stick. We always look for that magic moment when ideas flow effortlessly from a single concept. When you wrap that banger of an idea in some crazy art direction and the illest animation, you’re gonna have a project that’s sweeter than SunnyD.

A Visionary Director

We don’t direct anything by committee at THE LINE. We believe in the power of a visionary director. A singular voice who can take a concept and elevate it to the next level. That doesn’t mean they’re on their own, not by a long shot. They have daily access to a highly experienced team of artists and creators, who serve as an invaluable sounding board and are fully invested in every project’s success. In the end, it’s up to the director to cherry-pick the ideas that best serve the project, ensuring a strong, cohesive vision.

We always hand-pick the crew specifically for each project. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Whoever and whatever the project requires, we’ll make sure it gets it. We have a massive list of collaborators and friendships with the best in the game. And we take fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuull advantage when crewing for a project. That’s the secret spice and why our projects are muy caliente.

We absolutely, positively love collaborating with brands to promote their latest and greatest projects and products. In the commercial world, we get to explore so many different techniques, tailoring styles specifically to each brand’s audience. It’s incredibly rewarding, there really isn’t anything else that gives you that kind of experience.

We’ve got a thing for “the hype video” to be honest, it’s one of our favourite types of projects. We love bringing the hype! We’ve created cinematics for League of Legends, Uncapped Games, Blizzard, Marvel, and more.

Music videos are in our DNA. Our very first project was a music video for Porter Robinson, and we’ve been passionate about them ever since. We’ve had the pleasure of creating videos for bands like Gorillaz – the holy grail for any animator – artist sensations like Lil Nas X, and we’ve even helped Riot Games flip-turn the music scene upside down with their virtual act, True Damage. We’re always excited to work with artists who want to bring their music to life.
